The Differences Between
Counselling and Psychotherapy
I offer counselling - not psychotherapy.

Counselling may still be reimbursed through insurance companies that recognize Counsellors (CCC or CCC-Q) who provide counselling through certification with CCPA. Read on to learn about the differences between these similar yet distinct professions and titles.

Counselling: Counseling is typically a short-term, solution-focused process that addresses specific, present-day concerns such as life transitions, stress management, relationship issues, career decisions, or personal growth. Counselors work with clients to help them gain clarity, develop coping skills, and improve their overall functioning in daily life. It is often less intensive and focused on practical strategies for navigating current challenges.

Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy, on the other hand, tends to be a longer-term,
in-depth treatment that explores deeper psychological issues, such as past trauma, unresolved emotional wounds, and complex mental health concerns (e.g., depression, anxiety, or personality disorders). Psychotherapy typically involves a more thorough exploration of unconscious patterns, past experiences, and emotional processing.
